From Germany to Iowa

I hope you like this retrospective look at the life and times of the first Anhalt family to settle in America.

It’s a joy to see something get accomplished and there is no doubt Adam and Anna got ‘er done. If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have had a chance. They left us a legacy love story to pass on to our children.

For them and for us, love is a choice you make over and over again.

about This Website

I finished the first account of the Anhalt Family emigration from Germany in time for Mothers Day 2017 in honor of Anna (nee Kaiser) Anhalt, the original American mother of our Anhalt family.

Since then, I have been fortunate to receive many pictures and letters from other family members offering new historical material which I have included in an updated account along with corrections of my previous mistakes.

Additionally, my journey to Wachstedt, Germany in 2019 revealed new insights and I was delighted to attend the 100th birthday celebration of Ardith (Anhalt) Allison in January 2024.

It was at this meeting that her granddaughter, Shaina Allison, and I discussed developing an online database.
